Summer Hazards: Hornets’ Nests

The summer season can be the opportune time for tree maintenance and care. At Trees of Colorado, we recently encountered an unexpected hazard while preparing to trim a silver maple tree – a hornets’ nest. In this blog post, we’ll shed light on the potential dangers these nests can pose during the summer months and highlight the importance of being aware and prepared.

Preventing disaster in pine trees

Have you noticed any changes in the color or health of your pine trees? They may be infested with pine beetles. These medium sized insects can cause significant damage to pine trees, leading to weakened and potentially dead trees.

One of the critical signs of a pine beetle infestation is the presence of small holes in the tree trunk, as seen in this picture

Rotten Tree Cavities

This kind of rotten cavities are very common in Silver Maple trees. The cavities are usually found lower on the trunk and the upper tre is solid with very little decay making the Silver Maple to catastrophic failure in Extreme high winds and heavy snow fall.
